Big Band composer and Arranger Sammy Nestico in a brand new project with the US Army Jazz Ambassadors “America’s Big Band,”, as recorded by Grammy winning producer (and Pittsburgh Native) Jim Anderson.

“The Sammy Sessions” can be heard in stereo, on CD, and on a Pure Audio Blu-Ray disc with immersive audio formats including 5.1 surround and 3D Binaural sound. The Blu-Ray disc also includes an extended video of Sammy Nestico discussing his arrangements and compositions and the recording sessions.

His playing has taking him on the road with the Billy May Orchestra and on national television with the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in the 1960’s. This new release features Frank at his harmonically adventurous best.

Joined by the talents of Roger Humphries and Thomas Wendt on drums and bassists Patrick Crossley, Paul Thompson and Dwayne Dolphin, this project from MCG Jazz is a must-have new release for fans of jazz, Pittsburgh and great music.

Reunion Tribute to Erroll Garner with Geri Allen, Ernest McCarty, Jimmie Smith & Noel Quintana

Erroll Garner’s first recording date was supervised by George Heid, Sr. in 1937 in Pittsburgh. In 2016, George Heid, Jr. continued the Garner connection with the reunion of the rhythm section from his final years as a performer.

July 2016, Ernest McCarty, Jr on Bass and Jimmie Smith on drums revisited their roles with Erroll Garner in a session joined by Noel Quintana, congas and Geri Allen, piano.

Tunes include; Caravan; Gemini; The Shadow of Your Smile; Mambo Carmel; Get Happy; Autumn Leaves; and It Could Happen to You.

The writing and arranging of Saxophonist and composer arranger Bob Mintzer fuses with vocalist and arranger Darmon Meader for a joyous big band and vocal jazz experience of four-part vocal harmony and stunning big-band interplay.
