The Pittsburgh Jazz Year 2019, part II - scratching the surface...

The Year 2019 in Pittsburgh Jazz was an amazing mix of reunions, celebrations, convergence and a substantial increase in quality and quantity of things to see and hear.

As week look back to 2019 a bit more, we added up more than 2000 events happening in the region. Small clubs, big shows and a chance to hear new up and coming artists as well as legendary performers.

Marty Ashby and Renêe Govanucci recently returned from a trip to Japan with Ken Kimery and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. The experience brought to the fore some of the phenomenal jazz artists from Japan, and reminded Marty and Renée of the many artists who’ve visited and recorded at MCG Jazz in Pittsburgh.
