Jam Session and Tribute to Butch Perkins at the AAMI - Homewood

A memorial celebration / fundraising event at The Afro-American Music Institute to celebrate the life of iconic Pittsburgh Jazz Radio host, Ronald “Butch” Perkins.

The event will included a Memorial Jazz Jam Session and Art Exhibition of Teenie Harris Photographs from Butch Perkins’ personal collection that he donated to AAMI.

Performers will include the founders and executive directors of the Afro American Music Institute (AAMI), Dr. James Johnson his wife, Pamela, a special appearance by Jazz Drummer Greg Humphries, and many other special guests. Drummer Tom Wendt will be the Musical Director for the evening.

Makaya McCraven Wall of Sound

Drummer, producer and sonic collagist Makaya McCraven studied under Archie Shepp, Marion Brown and Yusef Lateef, and then to the Chicago scene.

McCraven is an internationally known jazz artist and next-wave composer producer, blurring the boundaries of jazz and electronic music. Hear him at the August Wilson Center, downtown.
