We talk to saxophonist and bandleader Tony Campbell about upcoming live and virtual events he’s involved with, including a new online series of “The Songs of Pittsburgh,” which has attracted thousands of views in recent weeks.
Trombonist Reggie Watkins has been busy with a weekly gig on the patio at Quantum Spirits in Carnegie - but this weekend, he’s having Jeff Bush substitute - because Reggie is performing with Walter White and his very big band for an online show for the Detroit Jazz Festival on Sunday.
We also hear music from Waclav Zimpel, one of the performers set to play for the Virtual Jazz Poetry Month events in September from Alphabet City / City of Asylum on the North Side - now in it’s 16th year.
Plus, a musical memory of Charlie Parker from Pittsburgh’s Eddie Jefferson, Richie Cole from his Hollywood Madness record with Bruce Forman and the Manhattan Transfer, and Jazz sounds from Pittsburgh young lions and torchbearers.
Thursday night at six, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday afternoon at 5 on WZUM.
