This week, the show is a reprise of the one from the spring - our NY interview with Gene Bertoncini from in January (before COVID, and a week that became warm and beautiful), Gene’s recordings, some things he and I recorded, together, and an update from Gene on New York in November.
Plus, we remember Jeanette Native and trombone and jazz composer/arrangement great, Slide Hampton, who passed away this week at the age of 89.

We visit with Guitarist John Shannon to talk about November 27th’s Suite Life at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, with Lisa Ferraro and her Jazz up the Holidays event December 6th at MCGJazz, and Remembering Dave Frishberg who passed away this week at the age of 88.

Ron Affif hasn’t been home to Pittsburgh since about 2016 - but he’ll be back in town this weekend - for a trio date at Con Alma, Downtown on Friday and a special “After Release” event for vocalist Tania Grubbs and her quintet on Sunday - an event delayed for 19 months because of the pandemic.
We visit with Tania on the deferred event - and with Ron Affif about a bit of his career and story.

Remembering Pat Martino, Hill Jordan, and a welcome return to Chris Hemingway
The news last week of the death, at age 50, of Pittsburgh trombonist and bandleader Hill Jordan had much of the music community reeling, and preparing for a memorial concert and services November 5 and 6.
This week, we play music to remember, and celebrate, and also visit with trombonist and bandleader Reggie Watkins about his friend and contemporary Hill “Hilly” Jordan, plus appreciate the return of saxophonist Chris Hemingway for a 3 day musical visit.
