December brings Pittsburgh jazz gifts to the world and home, again. We feature a new holiday release from vibraphonist and harmonica artist Hendrik Meurkens (recorded over the summer in Pittsburgh), plus Pittsburgh native Jae Sinnett’s new release with a symphony orchestra recorded in Norfolk, Virginia. We also get some extra insights from Gary Bartz ahead of his performance this weekend for Kente Arts.

As the Jazz Scene in Pittsburgh has grown in this resurgence, clubs and venues are busy - and so are the recording studios.

We talk with saxophonist Tony Campbell about his latest, “Blues Ballads and Beyond,” a new outing with young performers writing new songs (Antonio Croes, Ben Sherman, Patrick Whitehead), and vocals by notables on the scene, Fred Pugh and Bethany James.
