The Blue Hots
The Blue Hots at Katz Plaza, downtown
The Blue-Hots, an 'exotic' jazz vocal trio (within a septet) mixes assorted twentieth century jazz styles with other idioms-- Brazilian, Broadway, TV theme songs, Blues, Cuban-- to create an unlikely brew of original compositions (and covers).
Ian Kane (pianist, vocalist, and songwriter) founded the group in 2012. Reni Monteverde (pianist, vocalist, and Jazz PhD student) along with Carey Evans (vocalist, scat singer) round out the vocal trio, which is loosely modeled after the 1960s hit jazz group, Lambert Hendricks & Ross. Dan McMillan (congas and more) joins forces with the many styles of drummer, Fox Smith. Chris Skelly (a Duquesne graduate on upright and electric bass), and Tom Boyce (multi-genre guitarist), complete the septet.
