AW Studio Sessions: Leela James - Ma Rainey REDUX - ONLINE LIVESTREAM

The August Wilson African American Cultural Center presents Leela James: "Ma Rainey Redux" virtual concert on December 17 as part of the AW Studio Sessions and celebrating the December 18 release of "Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom" on Netflix based on the play by August Wilson. The Film was largely shot in Pittsburgh in 2019.

Featuring an array of Gertrude “Ma” Rainey classics such as "Stack O’ Lee," "Don’t Fish In My Sea," "Booze and Blues," as well as a series of blues inspired by Ms James' originals. She will be joined by Jairus "JMo" Mozee on guitar and musical director, bassist Ethan Farmer, Brian Collier on drums, and Dominique Xavier Taplin on keys.
