Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival - and Lonnie Jordan of WAR

Thursday night at 6, repeated Sunday at 5 on “THE SCENE” on WZUM - it’s more about the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival

We talk with the founding keyboardist and lead vocalist for the band WAR - Lonnie Jordan - a long discussion of the 4 decades of music from this diverse ensemble, and we hear some vintage sounds from 1977’s “Platinum Jazz” - right off the vinyl.

Also, sounds from NEA Jazz Master and saxophonist Charles Lloyd, trumpeters Ray Vega and Byron Stripling, pianist Chrisitan Sands, and the Captain Black Big Band led by pianist Orrin Evans.

This weekend of the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival has more than 75 different jazz events, from Warrendale to Morgantown, and throughout the heart of Pittsburgh. Please go and get some great music and community, in our community!
