George Heid III
Drummer George Heid III is a noted percussionist, composer and the leader of a much admired weekly jam session in the times just before the lockdown.
During the lockdown, as he lives in a place with a recording studio downstairs, George came up with a new project that remotely recorded a great number of musical notables from all over the world, including the U.S., Australia and France.
We visit with George about Wisdom Path, the project he and percussionist Steve Shehan produced, joined the talents of vibraphonist Warren Wolf, steel pan master Victor Provost and keyboard and accordion notable Joe “Sonny” Barbato.
We talk with GH3 about the project, hear some of the music, ponder music during the lockdown, and George’s ideas behind his very successful new approach to the Pittsburgh jazz Jam session, which he hopes can return to the scene, soon.
We also hear music from new grammy winners, including Chick Corea, Kurt Elling and Maria Schneider.
