Pittsburgh Summer Jazz Simmers and will stay hot into the Fall - the Scene - on WZUM

The summer of 2022 continues to pop in Pittsburgh - with more than 250 events slated for August, so far, and September is building.

In fact, we’re racing to keep up with new places, new players and visiting artists! It’s a great time for all sorts of sounds all over the region.

Among the highlights, Antonio Hart come in for part two of “Kente Summer Madness,” as Kente Arts partners with Alphabet City for another show on August 17th when Antonio Hart joins Thomas Wendt, Alton Merrell and Dwayne Dolphin for an event of live and online jazz.

But there’s so much more. Pianist Craig Davis has a new release coming out on MCG Jazz with two modern jazz legends with strong connections with Pittsburgh’s Ray Brown - Jeff Hamilton (drums) and John Clayton (bass). The New CD is a tribute to the music of another Pittsburgher, Michael “Dodo” Marmarosa.

The Pittsburgh international Jazz Festival and the Monroeville Jazz Festival are on the horizon in September - and we’re just starting to fill the slots for that busy month!

WZUM’s Jazz Central Calendar is increasingly comprehensive and we try to make it accurate as possible - and it continues to be full - and pretty much everything on the show is a part of the Pittsburgh jazz days and nights of summer.

Also, of note - Con Alma, Downtown has made some more changes - going later on Friday and Saturday nights. The early sets with now go 6-9pm, the “late” show - 10pm to 1am.

Also in August - Jazz at the Highland Park Reservoir on Sundays in August - 5-7pm; The Roger Humphries Jazz Boat Ride is a go for August 28th with the Gateway Clipper fleet - including honors from Roger Humphries to Mensah Wali of Kente Arts.
