Homecomings, Highlights and Joy of Jazz in July - the Pittsburgh Scene - on WZUM

We keep adding and updating the Jazz Central Calendar - and there’s a lot to share.

In some cases, projects by Pittsburgh based artists - like Howie Alexander headlining a project at Alphabet City on Sunday July 9th with spoken word accents by Leslie “Ezra” Smith. In other cases - homecomings - like Guitarist Andy Bianco as a part of “Charlie Christian Week” at Con Alma.

Also combinations like the Ashby Family Band at Con Alma - bringing trombonist Jay Ashby and vocalist Kim Nazarian Ashby back to town with MCG Jazz’s Marty Ashby on guitar.

But many more artists are coming to visit, too - including Jay Hoggard, Mala Waldron, Bobby Sanabria and Christopher Dean Sullivan toward the end of the month for the Jazz Workshop Inc for a show at the Kelly Strayhorn - and so much more.

But it all ties together with our revisitation of a chat with Howie Alexander from a couple of years ago - about Joy.

The Joy of jazz in Pittsburgh is all round us - and on the radio, day and night.
