2024 is over - and as we look back at the year in Pittsburgh Jazz for 2024, it was pretty amazing - with historic recognition, musical reunions, new adventures and the return of the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival to downtown, to cite just a few.
One the program, we look at
- the revival of Ernest McCarty Jr’s Dinah Washington play by Mark Clayton Southers and Pittsburgh Playwrights Theater,
- the unveiling of historical marker honoring the home of jazz piano legend Earl “Fatha” Hines in Duquesne,
- the reunion of actor and pianist Jeff Goldblum with his onetime jazz piano teacher Frank Cunimondo,
- and the honorary renaming of a street on Pittsburgh’s Northside to “Roger Humphries Way.”
That was just a part of the year!
The Scene - Thursday at 6pm, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday afternoon at 5.
