We visit with percussionist, composer and bandleader George Heid, III about his new project - a new vinyl album called “Intentions.”
There’s also a fascinating story about a vintage RCA BX 44 ribbon mic (see Frank Sinatra with one, below). That mic was last used for Heid family work by George Heid, Sr, when recording sounds of trains. A very loud train whistle blew out the delicate ribbon mic’s inner workings many years ago. George III tells how that mic has now come back to life and service.
Plus - another III - Benny Benack III with his new release - and much, much more at the Jazz Central Calendar! The Scene - Thursday at 6pm, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday at 5 on WZUM.
