Marty Ashby welcomes drummer, composer, and Pitt Jazz Studies Artistic Director Chad Taylor for a powerful celebration of rhythm, innovation, and legacy. The program marks two golden anniversaries: the 55th Annual Pitt Jazz Seminar, originally founded by Pittsburgh’s own Nathan Davis, and the 55th anniversary of Max Roach’s groundbreaking percussion collective M’Boom.
We’ll hear Nathan Davis’s "Atlanta Walk", Wayne Shorter’s "Indian Song", Sasha Berliner’s UMMG, and Bobby Sanabria’s "Somewhere"from West Side Story Reimagined. The heartbeat continues with Max Roach’s "Rumble in the Jungle",and Warren Smith's "For Oumou, With Love", and "Waltz for Megan" from the Chad Taylor Quintet.
Several of these featured artists — including Sasha Berliner, Bobby Sanabria, and M’Boom members Joe Chambers and Warren Smith — are part of the events Taylor has curated for this year’s Pitt Jazz Seminar, bringing the music from this episode to life on stage.
Friday and Sunday night at 6, Saturday afternoon at 1 on WZUM
