Roger Humphries had never been in a big-time recording studio before he walked into Rudy Van Gelder’s New Jersey studio for the Horace Silver album “Song for My Father.”
60 years later - that album revealed Horace’s biggest tune, and a phenomenal drummer and a modern jazz classic.
We visit with Roger about the record session -and also reveal that we have made special arrangements to get the newly re-pressed, 180 gram vinyl LP version of “Song For My Father” for your gift of $300 to WZUM. A very special, limited offer to help put WZUM over the top for a very important goal of $50,000 to finish out 2025.
We also share music from Joe Negri - his MCG Jazz album from 2004 produced by Marty Ashby (we have that as a thank you gift CD, too!)
Music from the latest releases be John Shannon Reid Hoyson, Andrew Kirk and George Heid III fill the hour, too!
The Scene - Thursday night at six, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday afternoon at 5 on WZUM.
