February Music - Michael Mayo, Endea Owens and Helen Sung in the MCG Jazz Spotlight

Marty Ashby previews an extraordinary run of February performances, beginning with the MCG Jazz debut of vocalist and composer Michael Mayo — a double GRAMMY nominee and one of the most compelling emerging voices on today’s jazz scene. His blend of jazz, soul, and inventive vocal layering has earned him a rapidly growing following.

Mayo appears in a special double bill with bassist, bandleader, and Feel Good Music architect Endea Owens, whose Late Show Band work and community-centered ensembles have made her a standout among rising jazz innovators.

Marty also discusses the newly added performance featuring acclaimed pianist and composer Helen Sung, a 2021 Guggenheim Fellow, joining the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra. Audiences will also receive an exclusive sneak peek at music from Sung’s upcoming release Oracle — an early look at her next artistic chapter.

Hear it on the MCG Jazz Spotlight - Friday and Sunday night at 6, Saturday afternoon at 1 on WZUM
