Leading up to next week’s Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival, we visit with two notable new vocal stars on the scene - Ekep Nkwelle (whom we first heard at a tribute to Russell Malone earlier this year), and Michael Mayo, a singer who’s newly updated release “Fly” has just been made available.
Plus, we visit with Etienne Charles, who tells stories about the photo shoot for his new album “Gullah Roots.”
And, Orrin Evans returns on the Jazz Train from the east - with his trio “Tar Baby” on the main stage, and organizing the jam session at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, Saturday night, September 20.
