Virtuoso bassist, composer and educator Tony Grey lives north of Pittsburgh, and plays in town, often. He’s busy all over, and has toured the world with the likes of Hiromi, his uncle, legendary guitarist John McLaughlin and a myriad of others - Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Marcus Miller, Gerald Veasley, John Shannon, David Throckmorton, James Johnson III and many more
His travels crossed paths with pianist and composer Bob James many times, and recently, the two got together in Northern Michigan to work on musical ideas - no plan or pressure - yet a wonderful and diverse new recording has been released from that collaboration.
The new Tony Grey release, featuring Bob James is called Nostalgia. We’ll share a conversation with Tony about it and his career - and especially the music on The Scene - Thursday night at 6, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday at 5 on WZUM.
