Marty Ashby welcomes Pittsburgh drummer and bandleader Reid Hoyson for a wide-ranging conversation about his life in music, his recordings, and a career that has put him behind the drums with an impressive and sometimes surprising collection of musicians.
Reid has spent decades as part of the jazz scene as both a sideman and a leader, developing a musical voice rooted firmly in the jazz tradition while remaining open to the many directions that tradition can travel.
Along the way, Reid shares stories about collaborations with some formidable jazz artists, including bassist Rufus Reid, pianist Billy Test (Pennsylvania-born, currently with the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany), and harmonica virtuoso Hendrik Meurkens.
