It’s the week of the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival! We share visits and music with and of PIJF notables - l Jae Sinnett, Sean Jones, Terri Lyne Carrington and Eric Roberson - and Orrin Evans.
We also take a sonic look back at the the September 11th Honorary Street Renaming for Mary Lou Williams Way (the corner of East Liberty Blvd and Larimer Ave). We have comments from Mary Lou’s niece, Bobbie Ferguson, her grand nephew Dr. Gerald Ferguson, Pittsburgh City Councilman Khari Mosely and State Senator Lindsey Williams. Also speaking at that event - scholar and musician Dr. Nelson Harrison, Samuel Black, Director of African American Programs at the Heinz History Center, Master of Ceremonies Jeannine Ferguson, radio host Bob Studebaker, and scholar and musician Adam Lee-Morgan.
