Improvising through a Pittsburgh Jazz Summer, new Blakey, and more Annie Ross and Lambert, Hendricks and Ross
Improvising our way through a Pittsburgh Jazz Summer.
With special health concerns canceling larger performances, and severely limiting what restaurant and night scene can continue - Jazz performers and presenters have become agile and innovative in keeping the embers of the Pittsburgh Jazz Scene aglow.
Sounds from Bill Heid, Kenia, the Balcony Big Band, John Shannon, David Gurwin, Reggie Watkins.
Plus, a listen to the “New” 1959 studio recording on Blue Note from Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Just Coolin’.
And, another look and listen to the music of Annie Ross, plus a dip into the musical waters of the revolutionary vocal group, Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. From 1957 to 1962, blazing a trail of vocal jazz that still resonates, today.
