Sounds of heat, Sonny, Dizzy and Brazil with Kate Borger on Rhythm-a-Ning
As July ends and we move to August, Kate Borger celebrates summer with songs reflecting summertime, directly and indirectly - from a bit of Gershwin by Pittsburgh’s Eddie Jefferson to “Some Summer Fun” with Duke Ellington.
Join Kate Borger for Rhythm-a-Ning - Friday morning at 10, Saturday morning at 11, on WZUM.
We broke the Squarespace Calendar? Sean Jones, Kenny Blake, John Shannon, Roger Humphries and more on the Scene - on WZUM
However, the growth of WZUM and the jazz scene in Pittsburgh is starting to bump into some limits.
WZUM’s Jazz Central Calendar is increasingly comprehensive and we try to make it accurate as possible - putting in addresses, times, the names of venues, performance times, leaders and other players. With 260+ Jazz Events in July - we are hitting the limits of the calendaring system!
Hear what we’re keeping up with - including
NYO Jazz, led by Sean Jones - at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, Tuesday, August 2nd. BNY Mellon JazzLive - featuring Kenny Blake August 2, 5-7pm; Jazz at the Highland Park Reservoir on Sundays in August - 5-7pm, including John Shannon and Fourth River on August 7; plus, finishing July - sounds include the Hill District Arts Festival on Centre Avenue, including Anita Levels, Tubby Daniels, Tony Campbell, Jessica Lee/Mark Strickland/Hugo Cruz, and the Roger Humphries Big Band.
