The closing this weekend of the Original Pittsburgh Winery in the Strip had us pondering back to the summer before Covid.
Back in 2019, the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival was in June, filling the calendar along with venues like Cioppino’s, Wolfie’s Pub, Nola on the Square, the Savoy and others.

Remembering and looking ahead - The Scene on WZUM
We remember and look forward on the scene this week, including several notable women in jazz.
We note the passings of vocalists Geraldine de Haas at the age of 91 in July - and Jeanie Bryson in June at 68 after an extended illness.
Also, we highlight a celebration of Women and Jazz at the South Park Amphitheater with Su Terry and Camille Thurman August 14; trumpeter Bria Skonberg at City Winery August 30th; A special event at the New Granada Theater in the Hill August 12th that features Tony Campbell, Andrew Kirk back in town to Con Alma August 28 and much, much more.
