Saxophonist, writer and bandleader Lakecia Benjamin fuses traditional conceptions of jazz, hip-hop, and soul. As a street wise kid growing up in Washington Heights in NYC, Benjamin picked up the saxophone at Fiorello LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. She has shared stages with legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Reggie Workman, and The Roots.
