Scott Hanley on the MCG Jazz Spotlight Hour

This week, the Spotlight turns toward Scott Hanley.

Though most widely recognized as General Manager of WZUM Radio, Scott is also a gifted singer, and a lifelong jazz advocate. Sitting in with host Marty Ashby, Scott shares an autobiographical playlist of the music that shaped him, from the great jazz voices and bandleaders who inspired his career to the colleagues and friends he has performed alongside.

The program features classics from Chris Connor, Nancy Wilson, Lou Rawls, Johnny Hartman, Dinah Washington, Tony Bennett, and Mark Murphy — alongside the swing and soul of Cannonball Adderley, and Bill Evans. The story is told not only through iconic recordings but also through unreleased tracks featuring Scott Hanley himself, including collaborations with guitarist Gene Bertoncini and bassist Paul Keller, giving listeners a rare inside look at his artistry.

More than a playlist, this week’s show is a personal journey — a reflection on the music that influenced Scott’s path in broadcasting and performance, and a preview of his upcoming JazzLive appearance on September 9th at the Greer Cabaret Lounge.

Friday and Sunday nights at 6, Saturday afternoon at 1 on WZUM
