Jazz Festivities in Pittsburgh - Paul Cosentino, Janis Burley, Monroeville, Heartwood Acres and More on the Scene on WZUM

Labor Day weekend points to jazz festivals and gatherings to celebrate in Pittsburgh now and for the weeks to come.

This Weekend, Golden Age Beer Company in Homestead features a diverse assembly of talent over four days - Paul Cosentino filled us in on this return to local community celebrations.

Janis Burley of the August Wilson African American Community Center and the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival tells the story of the upcoming Jazz Festival September 18-21 in Downtown Pittsburgh - plus a look back to an early festival that pointed the way to jazz festivals back in 1945.

We visit with guitarist and Con Alma music curator John Shannon about his new CD, about what’s up at Con Alma, plus his own show upcoming for the PIJF.

Plus, highlights for this weekend’s Monroeville Jazz Festival, Saturday - and Sunday with Monty Alexander at Heartwood Acres in the North Hills.

We also hear music from Paul Cosentino and the Boilermaker Jazz Band, Calvin Stemley, Etta Cox, Tony Campbell, Roger Humphries and the RH Factor, Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival Headliners, John Shannon, Kandace Springs, and Etienne Charles, plus pianist Monty Alexander.

The Scene - an hourlong radio show - Thursday night at 6, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday at 5 on WZUM
