A busy couple of weeks in the Pittsburgh jazz scene, looking back and forward: We had the Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra at MCG last week; a trip to Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City for Pittsburgh jazz legend, drummer Roger Humphries in a tribute show for Horace Silver.
Upcoming, the 55th Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert - including legendary drummer Joe Chambers with the latest iteration of the Max Roach founded percussion group, M’Boom.
We share the second part of our extended conversation with Joe Chambers on The Scene, plus more of Joe’s music from his latest release, Dance Kobina.
We also share a new release with vocalist Denise King, produced by John Shannon - which also has CD release events this weekend at Con Alma this weekend.
And, we remember drummer Jack DeJohnnette with music from the Standards Album of 1983 he did with Keith Jarrett and Gary Peacock. Jack DeJohnnette died this past week at age 83.
Thursday night at six, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday afternoon at 5 on WZUM.
