Playing Here - A Swinging November on the Pittsburgh Scene

November is filled with jazz visitors and homecomings - and we share a lot of them on the radio on the Scene this week.

Percussionists Joe Chambers and Warren Smith were a part of the Max Roach group M’Boom - and the spirit of that band is being featured this weekend for the Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert. We talk with Joe Chambers, share sounds from 1979 with M’Boom - and also the latest release from Joe Chambers, Dance Kobina.

Coming home to visit this month around the holidays - bassists Tony DePaolis and Eli Naragon - we play their music - as well as Noel Quintana and the Latin Crew and vocalist Jessica Lee.

Plus, musical visitors coming to town - saxophonist Mindi Abair - at MCG Jazz for two shows November 15, and vocalist Olivia Van Goor - at Con Alma Sunday night.

Plus - another track from that “new” recording from 1965 of Horace Silver at the Penthouse in Seattle - featuring trumpeter Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson on sax and Pittsburgh’s Roger Humphries at the drums.

Easing our way into November with music to be thankful for - Thursday night at six, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday afternoon at 5 on WZUM.
