Diana Krall Visits Heinz Hall, Tower of Power to Homestead and Video Game Jazz with Arcadia on the Scene

We visit with Adam Bleil and Evan David after a performance by Arcadia last week for Lighthouse Arts at the Morgan-Lee Arts Centre in the Hill. A unique feature of the band is music from things like Mario Brothers video games and improvising on those familiar sounds and revealing their jazzy nature. It has led for a new niche for Arcadia in unusual places - Including live musical accompaniment for Mario Kart tournaments at bottle rocket social hall in Allentown.

Also, music from a band that is celebrating 57 years of horn-driven funk and fusion - Tower of Power - coming to the Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall - September 12th. We visit a tune that’s been done by may jazz groups, since - Squib Cakes.

Also visiting Pittsburgh in the weeks ahead - Diana Krall - visiting the hometown of her mentor Ray Brown in a concert at Heinz Hall, July 2nd as a part of her North American tour.

Other highlights on the Scene:

Guitarist Eric Johnson - with his “A Team” at Con Alma, Saturday night;

A Jazz Coffeehouse at Warren United Methodist Church in the Hill - Sunday at 4 with Cecil Brooks and guests, including Tony Campbell, Mark Strickland, Howie Alexander, Bob Insko and Anita Levels.

And music from the Bleil Brothers Band (see Adam Bleil, above, add Clint Bleil and more), plus the popular new releases from Reid Hoyson and Max Leake.

A lot to keep up with on the Scene!
