Saxophonist and Bandleader Branford Marsalis is among the notable headliners for this year’s Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival. We Visit with him about his new record, “Belonging” and about much, much more, including his return in the last year to New Orleans.
Janis Burley, leader of the Jazz Festival and also the August Wilson African American Cultural Center shares stories of jazz festivals from years gone by, including what may have been the earliest, in 1945 (there will be special note of that in September in Pittsburgh).
Plus, a visit with guitarist and Con Alma co-owner John Shannon about his trio performance for the festival, plus some observations on the Pittsburgh Jazz Scene.
