This weekend on the MCG Spotlight Show, host Marty Ashby turns to page two of the 40th Anniversary Season for MCG Jazz with a deeper look at the artists and collaborations still to come.
That includes vocalist José James, whose genre-blurring sound—moving seamlessly between jazz, soul, and modern R&B. You’ll also hear from Billy Childs, making his MCG Jazz debut with a voice that bridges jazz, classical, and contemporary composition.
Artist-in-Residence Benny Benack III, brings his dynamic, Pittsburgh-born blend of trumpet, vocals, and classic showmanship to the MCG stage—honoring tradition while pushing it forward.
The upcoming season also features two standout collaborations, as vocalist Kurt Elling joins Yellowjackets to celebrate the music of Weather Report.
Plus, the Django Festival Allstars, joined by Anat Cohen, where virtuosic swing tradition meets one of today’s most expressive and adventurous clarinet voices.
MCG Jazz Season 40 - hear more about it - Friday and Sunday night at 6, Saturday at 1 on WZUM
