Pittsburgh Public Media Proudly Announces the Addition of WZUM 101.1 FM to the Greater Pittsburgh Airwaves.

Pittsburgh – Jazz programming has returned to many listeners in the Pittsburgh metro area from WZUM, the Pittsburgh Jazz Channel, with the addition of 101.1 FM in Pittsburgh.

“We’re thrilled to provide this greatly needed service for the community of music fans and musicians for which Pittsburgh is famous,” says Scott Hanley, General Manager of WZUM. “This has been a dream, deferred, for tens of thousands of listeners in the region.”

WZUM is able to bring 101.1 FM to Pittsburgh through the AM Revitalization initiative of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Pittsburgh Public Media (PPM) was allowed to pair this new metro FM signal with WZUM AM 1550 in Braddock, Pennsylvania, which was purchased by PPM in May 2016.

Through successful fundraising and community involvement, WZUM 101.1 FM was born.

WZUM is pioneering a new approach to local radio for Pittsburgh, with the ability to broadcast from anywhere in the region without the need for a single brick and mortar building. “We are on the bleeding edge of modern radio and how it’s done,” according to Pittsburgh Public Media President, WZUM Chief Engineer and announcer Chuck Leavens.

The Pittsburgh Jazz Channel WZUM can be heard on FM 88.1 from Bethany, WV, AM 1550, Braddock and 101.1FM from Pittsburgh’s north side. The station is available everywhere via www.wzum.org

WZUM is owned by PPM, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions to PPM and WZUM are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
